Clinical Microbiology Laboratories

The division provides clinical services at Northwestern Memorial Hospital (NMH).


Testing and Services

Virology/Retrovirology

  • Diagnosis of viral infections by virus culture in cells, CPE detection, shell vial and immunostaining
  • Viral serology, IFA and EIA procedures
  • Nucleic acid–based detection of chlamydia
  • Diagnosis of HIV and hepatitis C viral infections, EIAs, western blots and RT-PCR for HCV
  • HIV-1 plasma RNA viral load for monitoring the efficacy of anti-retroviral therapy
