Research Technician

We are recruiting an enthusiastic person to join a laboratory team of about 10 people interested in the cell and molecular biology of intercellular adhesion and the role of adhesion molecules in epidermal differentiation.  The laboratory is located in the Pathology department at the Northwestern University Chicago Campus.  Northwestern University combines innovative teaching and pioneering research in a highly collaborative environment that transcends traditional academic boundaries.  Students, faculty and staff are afforded exceptional opportunities for intellectual, personal and professional growth, enhanced by the richness of a vibrant urban center.

The successful candidate will be involved in both independent and collaborative research projects.  Core responsibilities include care for a transgenic mouse colony, and contribution to lab management duties, such as ordering, receiving and lab supply organization.   The Research Technologist will also train new lab members and rotation students, support other lab personnel and will perform other relevant duties as they arise. 

Minimal requirements of a BA or BS in biology, chemistry or related scientific discipline are necessary, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired.  MS degree and lab management experience desirable.  Individuals must have experience in animal husbandry, genotyping, cloning and vector development and an understanding of molecular and cell biology concepts.  Basic computer skills and familiarity with Word, Excel and PowerPoint are desired.  In addition, good interpersonal and communication skills, an ability to work both independently and as a team, willingness to take initiative and improve procedures are all desirable attributes for the person in this position.  If interested, please forward a cover letter and resume to Lisa Godsel:   l-godsel@northwestern.edu

Research Technologist

Description

We a recruiting and enthusiastic, self-driven person to join a breast cancer tissue acquisition core facility. The applicant would be principally involved in the procurement, processing, banking, and distribution of normal and malignant breast tissues for research purposes. The laboratory is located in the Pathology department at the Northwestern University Chicago Campus. The individual, as time permits, would have the opportunity to become involved in collaborative projects involving the development of tissue microarrays and their immunohistochemical analysis.

Requirements

Minimal requirements of a BA/BS in biology, chemistry, or related scientific discipline are necessary. Individuals must have some experience in tissue processing or acquisition. The applicant must have the ability to follow detailed protocols and maintain meticulous records. Basic computer skills/data entry, medical records extraction, and excellent interpersonal skills are also required. The ability to function independently and work with the members of the Breast Cancer Program are also necessary.
