Research Interests

We have published works in a broad range of areas in blood banking and immunohematology, with focus on the challenging transfusion problems of organ transplantation, and in particular, liver transplants. Our transfusion service has a strong emphasis on the quality improvement of laboratory testing and clinical support. We have implemented innovative systems for monitoring blood component usage, managing blood component recalls, and preventing ABO errors in organ transplants. Recently we were the first hospital in the US to install a newly approved system for full automation of pretransfusion testing. Through various committees in recent years, we have contributed to national forums for blood banking policies, accreditation, and disaster planning.
